Here at RachelSilk, we only use the highest Grade 6A Mulberry silk in different Momme counts for all our products. We have a relentless commitment to quality and perfection, we don't compromise on product quality no matter what.

What is Mulberry Silk

Mulberry silk refers to the silk made from the cocoons of the larvae of mulberry silkworms reared in captivity. The entire production process has been carefully monitored. And the environment of the silkworm larvae is also strictly controlled.

These allow for the larvae to spin silk threads that are rounder, more excellent, smoother, lighter, and more uniformly colored than any other type of silk in the world. Mulberry silk fibers are also firm, easily beating steel fibers of the same diameter in strength and durability.

What is Grade 6A Silk

Silk fibre comes in varying lengths; from short to long – from 1A Grade to 6A Grade.

6A Grade Silk is made from the longest silk fibres available – it is the highest grade that exists. This makes the material much more luxurious and durable than lower grade silks.

Only 5% of silk meets the Grade 6A standards: Perfect shape. Silk strand is uniform and long.

What is Momme Count

Mommes (mm), is a unit traditionally used to measure the density of silk fabrics.

Momme(mm)=Density, 30 Momme=30lbs / 100 yards of silk. Higher momme = more durable and expensive.

What is So Great about Silk?

Silk is the King (or Queen) of fabrics, so it’s no wonder it has many benefits that give it this most deserved title. Rare and luxurious, here’s just a few reasons to love this material.

100% Natural Fiber

Silk is a 100% natural fiber obtained from the cocoons of silkworms. The Cocoons are softened in water and filaments are unwound and woven together to create silk threads. It is lustrous, and smooth drapes well and is very strong.

According to science, silk is made of strings of amino acids with the same ph level as our skin, it is naturally hypo-allergic, natural mulberry silk containing sericin, a protein that reduces the possibility of an allergic reaction and thus is beneficial for those who suffer sensitive skin and itchy skin, such as (rosacea and eczema).

Reduce Hair Breakage

Do you often wake up with frizzy and tangled hair? Rougher materials, like cotton, is a very absorbent fabric that draws moisture from your hair and skin.

The natural properties of silk, including its smooth surface, can help reduce friction which often causes damage, such as split ends. Hence, you'll wake up with nourished, tangle-free hair instead of fragile hair!

Anti-Aging & Enhence Sleep

Pure mulberry silk is composed of animal protein containing 18 essential amino acids, which is known for its effectiveness in skin nourishment and aging prevention. Most importantly, the amino acid is able to give out a special molecule substance which makes people peaceful and calm, promoting sleep throughout the night.

Anti-bacterial Hypo-allergenic

Unlike other chemical fabrics, silk is the most natural fiber extracted from the silkworm, and the weaves are much tighter that of other textiles. The sericin contained in silk prevents the invasion of mites and dust efficiently. In addition, silk has a similar structure of a human's skin, which makes silk product wonderfully soft and anti-static.
